With over 300 employees and around 6,000 volunteers the Blind Foundation is New Zealand’s leading provider of services and support to people who are blind or have low vision. One of New Zealand’s most trusted and iconic Not for Profit organisations, we need a Deafblind Coordinator to join us. You will help the organisation achieve our vision of a “life without limits” for New Zealanders who are blind or who have low vision.
Deafblindness is a unique disability with unique needs. The Blind Foundation Deafblind Service provides a range of critical services such as supporting members to identify and develop ways to communicate, engage with and access services in the community to meet vision related and deafblind needs.
The Deafblind Coordinator will be responsible for screening and identifying the appropriate level of deafblind support required. The successful applicant will also deliver and co-ordinate service plans and implement communication intervention programmes. This is a part time (15hrs a week), permanent position.
Experience working in the disability sector is essential for this role, and the successful candidate will need to have:
a tertiary qualification in Human or Social or Rehabilitation Services and experience in service delivery within the health or disability field
demonstrated excellent communication skills
Experience working in the Deafblind sector
strong networking skills
strong time management and communication skills
be willing to undertake further training in blindness/deaf blindness
