The Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind Board has established a limited liability company – Foundation Ventures Limited - with registered charitable status.  Subject to the objects of the RNZFB, three independent directors are sought to incubate commercial opportunities that will benefit people who are blind, deafblind, have low vision or disability. 

The RNZFB is continuously moving through a process of transformation; Foundation Ventures is a key part of this transformation.  The Board will create additional sources of revenue, innovate, develop creative ways to provide services and develop innovative digital, technological or IT demonstration projects which can be taken to market.

The Board will comprise three Independent Directors jointly having technical, technology, digital, or business management, operational, or commercial, marketing and financial expertise, along with relevant accessibility knowledge and experience.

We are seeking applications from a range of people with complementary experiences to join this Board.  Due to the breadth and depth of expertise required, we recognise that not all Directors will hold all of the requirements, however, the Board as a whole will cover all areas. Applicants will have some or all of the following expertise or experience:

  • Structuring high-growth startup operations

  • Been involved in corporate innovation

  • Digital, technological and IT

  • Financial knowledge e.g. start-up funding practices, balance sheet management

  • Strategic thinking around novel business models

  • Strategic marketing

  • International experience of sales or deal brokering

  • Commercial law knowledge, particularly contract law and/or IP law

  • Risk management in the setup environment

  • Able to navigate the cultural differences between corporates and start-ups

  • An understanding of accessibility
